Notary Information
Notary public services are available in the Clerk's Office during regular business hours. You must make a personal appearance when signing a document and bring along two forms of identification. One form of identification much have a photo, such as a driver's license and the other only needs to have your signature. Neither a social security card nor a birth certificate is to be used as a form of identification.

The Secretary of the State’s office has advised Town Clerks not to notarize the following types of documents. You may want to check with your bank or an attorney for assistance with any of the following:

Documents to be filed on Portland’s land records

Wills/ Power of Attorney Forms

I9 Employment Eligibility Verification Forms

Any document where the notary is being asked to confirm that the signer is of sound mind
Notary services are free for Portland residents. There is a $5.00 charge for non-residents.
Notary Registration/Renewals
Notary Registration & Renewals:

New Notary Registration and Renewal certificates for notaries residing in Portland must be brought into our office personally and registered with us. There is a $20.00 registration fee.
​
If you need to verify that a notary is registered with the Town of Portland, certificates of verification are available for $2.00.
